I'm tired of hearing about Michael Jackson and that song "We Are the World" (although the 7" somehow found it's way into my record collection). As the story goes Michael helped organize the music industry to record "We Are the World" to raise aid for Africa. In doing this Hard Rock and Heavy Metal musicians were barred from participating.
Angered, then Dio guitarist Vivian Campbell got the ball rolling on a collaboration of epic proportions. Vocal contributions include Ronnie James Dio, Eric Bloom, Don Dokken, Rob Halford, Geoff Tate, among others. There's an epic guitar solo in the middle featuring Vivian Campbell, Craig Goldy, Yngwie Malmsteen, Buck Dharma, and many more. Thus the song "We're Stars" was recorded. Leave it to Heavy Metal to one up pop music. They're the world? Well fuck you, we're stars motherfucker! Check below for the video:
